Overview
Mount Kilimanjaro is Tanzania’s awe-inspiring icon, but you don’t have to climb it to appreciate its full splendour and the enthralling countryside surrounding it. Our Kilimanjaro day excursion Sneak Peek of the Peak Hike allows you to struggle up the first section of the legendary Marangu Route through a rainforest teeming with wildlife and chattering, curious blue monkeys. Keep an eye out for a colobus or two.It involving going up to the first camp Machame camp 3000m and come back via the same route on the same day – there is a drive about 35km from Moshi, which will take 45 minutes – 1 hour, then at Machame get you make registration and payment and get valid permit. The hiking starts at Machame gate at 1800 and the distance to cover to Machame camp is 11km (22km round trip) which will take 4-5 hours for each direction.

Leave lively, colourful Moshi early in the morning for the trip to Marangu Gate, the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro. It's only an hour away, but the scenery will capture you - coffee and banana fields, past charming Marangu hamlet, with Kilimanjaro rising magnificently before you. We'll register you at the Marangu Gate (we don't want you to go lost!) Your adventure will soon begin. The ridged route is first narrow as it winds through the rainforest. It's lush and gloomy, with moss adorning the trees. The canopy above is alive with songs and weird rustlings - might it be a colobus? Mongoose may scurry ahead of you. You'll also encounter fatigued hikers on their way down from the peak. Give them a thumbs up for their efforts. The journey to Mandara Hut takes around three hours, so take a break and eat a wonderful lunch at the Hut before continuing to the short but strenuous walk to the Maundi Crater. The views to the east across Taveta and the northwest to Mawenzi Peak are spectacular on a clear day. Don't forget to bring your camera! After taking in the scenery, you'll climb back down to the Marangu Gate, where our van will be ready to take you back to Moshi, exhausted but delighted. This Kilimanjaro day walk is acceptable for most individuals, even if they are physically challenged.INCLUDE / EXCLUDE

ABOUT VISA
Passport and Visas for Tanzania can be obtained via Online Visa Application before arrival or on arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport. All travelers will need a passport which will remain valid for at least 6 months longer than your expected visit. You will also need to present proof that you have a return ticket, and proof that you have sufficient money to support yourself during your stay in Tanzania. Each traveler is responsible for sorting out their own passport and visa requirements, and we cannot offer much assistance in this matter. If you do not yet have a passport, apply for one early, as they can take some time to arrive. If you already have a passport, double check when it expires.
While Tanzania is a commonwealth country, UK citizens definitely do need a tourist visa to enter. This is also true for citizens of Australia, New Zealand, India, United States, Canada and most EU countries. Citizens of countries not mentioned should contact their nearest embassy or high commission to check visa requirements. Visas usually cost in the neighborhood of $50 (around £40), but some visas from the US can cost $100. Tanzanian visas expire three months after they are issued so be careful not to apply too soon.
Visas can be purchased upon arrival at Kilimanjaro international Airport (IATA code: JRO), but you can expect long queues, and for the process to take an extra hour or more. The Tanzanian High Commission has stressed that they have the right to deny visas applied for on arrival. We have never had a report of this happening, but it is a danger best avoided.
For these reasons, we highly recommend that travelers get their visa in advance if at all possible. On the other hand, many US travelers prefer to avoid risking their passports in the mail, and other potential delays, by applying upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Please read the Visa Application Guidelines carefully before beginning your application to ensure you apply for the correct type of visa, and that you are planning on entering Tanzania through one of the approved entry points.
